Gender identities, social roles, relationship structures, and thus the associated relation between power and powerlessness are shaped and determined in different ways in culturally different societies. With a selection of artistic positions from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the exhibition Wound and Refuge (Verwundung und Zuflucht) weaves an open narrative which sets out to trace these relationship threads.

The occasion is the closure of the Kunstmuseum in Vaduz for conversion until mid-May. During this period, Gasometer Triesen and Küefer-Martis-Huus in Ruggell are presenting a number of excerpts from the collection of the Kunstmuseum from different perspectives. The theme of "Wound and Refuge" in Ruggell is a prelude to the exhibition "Strange out of Love" (Aus Liebe Fremd) at Küefer-Martis-Huus, that will be focusing on the set of concerns related to marriage migration as of April 2014.

In the selected works of Kerstin Kartscher, Kimsooja, Gina Pane, Leiko Ikemura and other artists, questions such as the difference between intimate and public places, the interplay of domesticity and the outside world or domains of protected withdrawal and exposed vulnerability all play a role. These female gazes are contrasted with images of the female created by Arnulf Rainer, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso or Henri Laurens, along with objects by Keith Sonnier, Joseph Beuys or Gary Kuehn. The result is a tightly-meshed, in parts associative tapestry of artistic positions concerning womanhood in our society. The show touches on painful feelings of exposure and vulnerability, questions of seeking shelter and finding curative peace in traditions or rituals. Ultimately, the search for dignity, sincerity and love also becomes manifest.

The exhibition is curated by Johannes Inama, director Küefer-Martis-Huus.
