The exhibition is dedicated to one special aspect in Jochen Gerz´s work, namely the video productions. Over the last few years, all of the artist´s videos since the late sixties were collected, edited, and in part restored.

Jochen Gerz, born 1940 in Berlin, lives and works since decades in Paris. He is among the most distinguished representatives of a European conceptual art which is dedicated to memory, in other words to the cultural roots of mankind. He became well-known as a performer, poet and photo-artist, but particularly his works in public spaces have received special attention, for example the "Memorial Against Facism" in Hamburg/Harburg or the "Invisible Memorial Against Racism" in Saarbrücken.

The exhibition is dedicated to one special aspect in Jochen Gerz´s work, namely the video productions. Over the last few years, all of the artist´s videos since the late sixties were collected, edited, and in part restored. They are now, for the first time, compiled completely and have been made accessible. Complementing them are selected installations which use various media at the same time.
