In this case, games means: establishing systems of rules, testing adherence to and infringement of rules, action strategies, or providing room for manoeuvre, discovering the secret of the things around us, creating parallel worlds, assuming different roles, exploring the interplay between chance and necessity in experimental arrangements, opening up a new field of possibility.
The exhibition understands "game" is as a subversive strategy, as scope for experimental thinking and as a field for creative potential. Faites vos jeux ! pursues the thesis that playful thinking and an experimental attitude are essential features of the art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The exhibition shows works by international artists like Hans Arp, Alighiero Boetti, Christian Boltanski, Marcel Broodthaers, Lygia Clark, Marcel Duchamp, Öyvind Fahlström, Peter Fischli & David Weiss, Carsten Höller, Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Tony Oursler, Takako Saito, Arnold Schönberg, Kurt Schwitters, Cindy Sherman, Roman Signer, Roland Stratmann, Jean Tinguely and others.
