Art Calendar 2010

The Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is now internationally known as the public collection with the most wide-ranging collection of works from this movement. Arte Povera, which arose in the second half of the 1960s in Turin, Milan and Rome, is one of the most influential movements of international art in the past twenty years. The artists are not concerned with “impoverished” art, as is often still assumed, but with art using simple means. The approaches to the aesthetic composition are very varied. What they have in common is the engagement with the world as a living and vital organism, and with the role that human beings could and should take in that world. This impetus stimulated and continues to stimulate young artists the world over.

Even before its opening, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein had strategically acquired
important works by these artists, for example thanks to a special grant from the Liechtenstein Parliament in 1999 on the occasion of the Museum’s opening the following year. Since that time, the stock has been repeatedly enlarged, not least through high-class works on permanent loan from private individuals. It therefore seemed appropriate to devote the Kunstagenda 2010 to this particular strength, as the Museum will celebrate its ten years of existence in summer 2010 with a large-scale exhibition on this exceptional phenomenon of contemporary art.
