Matt Mullican - Shooting Inside
from 17 October to 27 December 2008 at the Johanniterkirche Feldkirch
Johanniterkirche 510x340.jpg

Matt Mullican's installation, which consists of a number of video works, represents his response to the special, sacred atmosphere of the Johanniterkirche in Feldkirch. The performances which Mullican has carried out since the late 1970s under the influence of hypnosis enable the artist to penetrate other worlds. In this way he attempts to gain access to the universal: setting out on an inner journey to explore what lies behind the facade of identity. Mullican's major themes of life and death are thus expanded to include an exploration of the link between the unconscious and creativity.

Matt Mullican was born in Santa Monica, California in 1951 and lives and works in New York and Berlin.

The exhibition was organized jointly by the Johanniterkirche Feldkirch (curator: Eva Jakob) and the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein.
