"I guess at that time the body was a new territory, and it had to be investigated."
Barry Le Va, 2003
Barry Le Va (1941–2021) is regarded as a moderniser of sculpture in post-1960s art. In his multidisciplinary oeuvre, which in its beginnings is associated with process art and postminimalism, he widened the concept of sculpture by breaking up the closedness of form and incorporating the principle of change and instability as a constant in his work. All his life, the floor was his "ground" and field for experimentation. Drawing is an integral part of Barry Le Va's oeuvre. On the one hand, he saw it as part of his thinking process and, on the other, he understood his drawings as diagrams that function almost like musical scores or compositions.
Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is staging the first retrospective since the artist's death. The show presents a survey of his output from the 1960s, featuring a number of early key works, to the last groups of works, always following a "red thread": the relationship between his installations and drawings.
The show is accompanied by a three-volume publication that places particular emphasis on the artist's own words in the form of his Notes and interviews.

Our program:
11 am Artist Talk with Bethan Huws
14-17 pm Family workshop
Free admission.
Bethan Huws (1961 in Bangor/Wales, lives in Berlin) was invited to curate an exhibition on Marcel Duchamp for the Artist's Choice series. The artist has been working with Duchamp since 1999; since 2007 she has been translating this exploration into various works. Huws' own extremely humorous oeuvre is permeated by wordplay, ideograms and symbols, which in turn fascinate her in Duchamp's work. Her aim is to use her artistic eye to make hidden allusions visible in a variety of forms, be it through texts, work notes, sculptures or video installations.
The discussion with the artist will be held in English.

Explore the museum on a family walk and get active in the studio. The artist Barry Le Va has spread materials such as chalk and felt on the floor to create huge pictures and sculptures. He developed his concepts in drawings. We look at them and try them out for ourselves.
Every summer, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is a stop on the big "Destination Museum" travel map. Great programs and creative activities await you in numerous museums in Vorarlberg, Liechtenstein and St. Gallen - an adventure for the whole family!

Create your own festival jewelry from straw and wooden beads. We take inspiration from the current exhibition by artist Bethan Huws at the art museum and play with words and combinations of materials. Working with straw will give you that summer feeling!

We are delighted to be able to continue our long-standing cooperation with the poolbar festival in Feldkirch this year. And we are particularly looking forward to these items on the festival program:
Every music fan will be happy at the poolbar festival. The best proof: Bombay Bicycle Club. The North London indie band is equally popular with the older generation as it is with interested newcomers to the scene who are discovering earlier acts in the genre. BBC are a fixture on the big festival stages, and even Damon Albarn takes to the microphone on their studio album My Big Day, released in 2023. A must for all indies!
Sold-out concert halls and festival gigs are part of the daily routine for Calexico, alias Joey Burns and John Convertino. The band, based in Tucson, Arizona, has been a fixture on the indie scene since the nineties with their rather idiosyncratic, acoustic-oriented mix of styles: Americana, indie folk, a pinch of R'n'R and, above all, a strong dash of Tex-Mex - the proximity to Mexico leaves its mark on the Americans' sound. Calexico last released their album El Mirador in 2022.
