The exhibition Inner State of Health presents a selection of international video works from the 1990s. It begins with the observation that a number of artists approach public, social and psychological phenomena by means of portraying a concretely human vis-à-vis. Existence is depicted by way of personal elements. The predominantly multiple projections are used by the artists for a complex-multiple narrative form.

Questions of human existence are discussed openly. Questions on identity, individuality, the body-soul relationship, on the possibility of personality development within our modern information society in which it is taken for granted that the real and media-related worlds exist side-by-side. Our age is characterized by comprehensive changes: fruit and vegetables are available at any time of the year, whether it is summer or winter, personal contact is replaced by the computer, life derives from artificial insemination. Modern technology is accompanied by a change in almost all traditional values and presents us with the illusion that anything is possible. The artists, by way of their work, provide us with a place for reflection. Man is perceived as a psychological entity. These works also unreservedly throw light on the dark side of existence, be it hidden structures of socialization or inner unconscious depths. The polarities of human life are not obscured, yet the spiritual laws require them to be withstood in order to gain a balance. These personal dealings of the artists with essential questions of our time encounter the increasing, media-related desensitizing of our experience of life as a chance, a chance in which the observer is invited to directly participate.
