Artist editions

"Plant Volatiles" implies that plants move and communicate by means of volatile organic compounds. "Krabbeln, Schlafen, Fliegen" [Crawling, sleeping, flying] is the title which Jochen Lempert gives to the three black-and-white images of his edition. The Jerusalem artichoke with a root that he placed on photographic paper and exposed appears to be crawling. In the light of the midnight sun, the buttercup seems to have closed its little head, resting from the productive activities of the day: "Buttercup sleeping in the midnight sun". The camera eye captures the stinging nettle in the bright sunlight in brilliant white, depicting the cloud of pollen being ejected from the pollen capsules, in full flight like a fluttering butterfly.

This edition is being published on the occasion of the exhibitions "Parliament of Plants", Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz, 6 September 2020–17 January 2021, and "Jochen Lempert – Photographien", Atelier Amden, 30 August–25 October 2020.
