Annett Höland, Curator of the exhibition

Evi Kliemand (b. 1946 in Grabs, Switzerland, citizen of Vaduz) is a painter, writer, poet, editor and cultural mediator.

The sites of her artistic production find an echo in her work – Lavadina in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein, with a view of the Rhine Valley; Intragna in Ticino, Switzerland, at the confluence of the Melezza and Isorno mountain streams; and Vaduz, Liechtenstein, where she lives. The meeting place of water and land is also a site of painting and spatial transparency. Shore worlds and transitional zones are not only central themes but are equally manifested in Kliemand’s cyclical and processual modes of working.

The great connection to the landscape is simultaneously a point of reference, motivation and concern. By keenly observing and listening the artist reveals hidden or forgotten aspects, thus visualising disappearance. The core concern of her artistic and poetic oeuvre is to prevent loss, to give something back and to preserve memories of perception for future generations.

The exhibition takes works from the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein collection, mostly from the donation by cultural scientist Ralph Kellenberger, as the starting point, allowing visitors to experience selected phases of the artist’s creative development as well as her literary work through audio stations.

A production of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, curated by Annett Höland in collaboration with the artist.

A collection booklet accompanying the exhibition features contributions by Claudio Guarda, Annett Höland, Evi Kliemand, Christiane Meyer-Stoll, and Jürgen Thaler. With generous support from the Stiftung Fürstlicher Kommerzienrat Guido Feger.

Concert Performance by Ugnė Uma
Ugnė Umsa Sings Melancholic Beat
Lyrics: Lili Reynaud Dewar

Saâdane Afif has devised a performance afternoon for the closing event of the Eleanor Antin retrospective. He has invited artist-comedian Gözde Güngör and musician Ugnė Uma to take part. Their acts revolve around central themes of the exhibition: self-presentation, narrative, humour and questioning one’s own artistic action.

Like Antin, Afif works with a fictitious figure: Yasmine d’O, curator and regular partner in crime in his projects. She encapsulates questions of authorship, social roles and artistic mediation.

Saâdane Afif (b. 1970 in Vendôme, FR) has already featured on various occasions at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and is represented with several works in the collection.

Opening

Anna Jermolaewa. Radical Hope

A production of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, curated by Christiane Meyer-Stoll with Henrik Utermöhle.

Anna Jermolaewa (b. 1970 in Leningrad / Saint Petersburg) trains her keen, empathetic eye on moments of everyday life that are easily overlooked, transforming them into vivid allegories of social and political realities.

Often she works in places that feature in her own biography, above all in countries with a reference to the former Soviet Union, where she lived before fleeing in 1989.

Jermolaewa's artistic practice comprises video, installation, photography, performance, painting and sculpture. Of particular interest to her are the subtle mechanisms of influence that shape our everyday lives.

Jermolaewa has previously featured in two group shows at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. The collection includes two of the artist's works, both part of her contribution to the Austrian pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale. The artist is creating several new works for her major solo exhibition.
